How the Trust Score is calculated

The five sub-scores, their weights, grade bands, caps, and how to see what's moving your score.

The Trust Score is a number from 0 to 100 with a letter grade. It's calculated the same way for every contractor, and the current weights are always published on the Verification Standards page.

The five sub-scores

Sub-scoreDefault weightWhat feeds it
Compliance25%Share of required checks verified and current; penalties for expired items and days lapsed in the last 12 months
Safety25%TRIR and DART against your industry average, EMR, citations by severity, safety programs, L4 audit score
Financial15%Business credit band, years in business, liens and judgments, bonding capacity
Performance25%Bayesian average of verified review dimensions, on-time rate, rehire rate
Responsiveness10%Median response time to requests, bid response rate, on-time renewals

When a category has no data yet (for example, no reviews), it starts at a neutral value instead of zero, so new contractors aren't punished for being new.

Grades

GradeScore
A90-100
B80-89
C70-79
D60-69
Funder 60

You'll see Not yet rated until Level 2 is complete, and a Limited data label with fewer than 3 reviews.

Caps that override the number

  • An expired license or insurance policy caps the grade at D until it's renewed.
  • An open sanctions match sets the grade to F and hides the profile from search.
  • A fatality citation in the last 3 years caps the grade at C pending analyst review.

Seeing why your score is what it is

Your Score page lists every sub-score, the top three factors raising it and the top three lowering it, in plain language, such as "EMR 0.82 is better than 78% of electrical contractors". It also shows How to improve actions with an estimate of the points each would add.

Companies see the same explanation, minus the improvement tips.

When it changes

Scores recompute whenever an input changes (a check is verified, a policy expires, a review is published) and again every night. A daily snapshot builds the 24-month trend chart. If your score moves 10 points or more, you and the companies monitoring you are notified.

Something looks wrong

Use Report a data error on your Score page and pick the exact input. An analyst reviews it and corrects the record if it's wrong.

Paid services never change a Trust Score. Expedited Review, audits and Concierge only change speed and who does the work.
