How reviews are verified

Who can review, what the form asks, how we prevent fake reviews, and how contractors respond or dispute.

Every review on the platform comes from a company that actually hired the contractor.

Who can write a review

Only users at a company with a verified engagement:

  • an engagement created on the platform and marked complete by both the company and the contractor, or
  • a PO or invoice the company uploaded that an analyst or our matching matched to the contractor.

There's one review per engagement. The reviewer can update it for 90 days.

Contractors can also invite past clients from outside the platform. Those reviews show Verified by invoice only after an invoice is uploaded and matched.

What the review covers

An overall rating from 1 to 5 stars, plus required ratings for quality of work, safety on site, schedule, budget and change orders, communication, cleanliness, and documentation and closeout. AV engagements add programming stability, UI usability, audio and video performance, commissioning, as-builts, source-code handover, IT coordination and end-user training.

Reviewers also answer "Would you hire again?", and write 50 to 2,000 characters about the facts of the job.

How we keep reviews honest

  • We block reviews from companies that share owners, email domains, IP addresses or payment methods with the contractor.
  • Velocity limits and text-similarity checks catch bursts and copied reviews.
  • Automated moderation screens for profanity, personal data and threats before a review is published.
  • No one can pay to remove a negative review or to boost a positive one. We follow the FTC rule on fake reviews and review suppression.

How ratings are shown

The star rating is a Bayesian average: it starts from the platform average and needs several reviews before it moves far, so one review can't dominate. Profiles show the distribution, dimension averages and the "Would rehire" percentage.

Reviewers appear by role and company type by default, like "Facilities Manager, Healthcare, 500+ employees". They can choose to show their company name.

Responding and disputing

Contractors can:

  • post one public response per review,
  • message the reviewer privately, and
  • dispute a review for one of four reasons: not our job, factual error, harassment, or conflict of interest.

Disputed reviews stay visible with an Under review label unless they break the content policy. A moderator decides within 10 business days and tells both sides. Read the review and content policy.
